Volume 4, Number3 | 3rd Quarter 2015

Dear IEEE Member,

It's summertime, and the livin' is easy here in the Nation's Capital, and it's time for your quarterly edition of the IEEE-USA Conference Brief.

We have a great portfolio of IEEE-USA co-sponsored conferences and exhibitions, addressing diverse areas of policy and professionalism, in 2015. Do take a moment to consider making a presentation at, and attending, some of them. As always, if you know of a conference, seminar, or workshop you think IEEE-USA should consider co-sponsoring; or if you have an idea for a new event -- locally or nationally -- please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Charles Rubenstein (c.rubenstein@ieee.org)
Chair, IEEE-USA Conferences Committee

CONFERENCE ORGANIZERS' CORNER

Attention Conference Organizers

For those planning conferences, it is important to note that food and beverage menus often have a price "++" that means, in addition to the 20-25% administrative fee, there are sales taxes on all purchases.

IEEE has applied for sales tax exemption in all states and has only been approved in the 17 that are listed at the following URL: http://www.ieee.org/about/volunteers/tax-administration/exemptions.html

With sales taxes closing in on 10% your food and beverage charges can be 30-35% more than the quoted cost and if not careful, you could easily sustain a loss as a result!
