IEEE-USA Announces 2019 Awards Recipients

Washington, D.C. (1 November 2019) — The IEEE-USA Awards and Recognition Committee (A&RC), with the approval of the IEEE-USA Board of Directors (BoD), has announced the 2019 IEEE-USA Awards recipients:

IEEE-USA Robert S. Walleigh Award for Distinguished Contributions to Engineering Professionalism

  • Emily Sopensky
    For sustained leadership in establishing innovative new IEEE programs, conferences, and initiatives within the United States.

IEEE-USA Award for Distinguished Public Service

  • The Honorable David McKinley and The Honorable G.K. Butterfield
    For efforts in promoting investment in Science and Technology, and supporting IEEE-USA’s Congressional Visits Day.

The IEEE-USA John Meredith Professional Service Award

  • Mina Hanna
    For outstanding contributions to the advancement of artificial intelligence technology, policy, and strategy on behalf of IEEE-USA.

IEEE-USA Harry Diamond Memorial Award

  • Philip Neudeck
    For contributions to the development of silicon carbide integrated electronics and crystal growth technology at the NASA Glenn Research Center.

George F. McClure Citation of Honor

  • James Mercier
    For dedicated leadership promoting vibrant professional activities facilitating cross-organizational relationships within IEEE and with industry partners.
  • Richard Toftness
    For continued advocacy and grassroots promotion of student, technical, and professional activities in the U.S.
  • Chan Wong
    For significant sustained contributions in promoting professional development and fostering industry partnerships.

IEEE-USA Jim Watson Student Professional Awareness Achievement Award

  • Megan Culler
    For tireless efforts to bridge the gap between students and professionals by demonstating the value of continued membership within IEEE.

Award for Distinguished Literary Contributions Furthering Public Understanding and the Advancement of the Engineering Profession

  • Ralph Hogan
    For establishing a public radio program that engages IEEE members to communicate the importance of engineering and technology, and to raise IEEE brand awareness.
