As our country seeks to change its personal transportation economy from gasoline powered to electric, many interesting questions will be asked and answered. Many of these discussions will take place in the classrooms of our nation, as teachers prepare students for a different world. We must foster an objective look at this technology, not simply passionate arguments. All technologies have pros and cons, and electric vehicle technology is no different. It is my hope this small volume will stimulate discussions and informative exchanges among our future leaders.
Today, more than 280 million cars are on U.S. roads; about one percent are electric vehicles. Some people have great dreams about a massive resurgence of electric vehicles, leading the nation to a bright, clean transportation future. This transformation cannot happen overnight, regardless of activists’ fervor. It will be a long march to reality.
