IEEE-USA is saddened to learn that Dr. Gordon Moore passed away on Friday, 24 March, at age 94. The computer chip pioneer and originator of “Moore’s Law” co-founded semiconductor company Intel in 1968. Among many awards and honors, Moore received the IEEE Medal of Honor in 2008 for “pioneering technical roles in integrated-circuit processing, and leadership in the development of MOS memory, the microprocessor computer, and the semiconductor industry.” He dedicated his latter years to philanthropy and environmentalism. We offer our condolences to Moore’s family, friends, and colleagues.
