  • IEEE-USA has conducted surveys of the compensation of IEEE's U.S. members since 1972. Separate surveys focusing on the compensation of consultants were implemented in 2002, and with the exception of 2003, have been conducted annually ever since. All findings in this report represent only those participants who were identified as self-employed consultants--defined as the 632 individuals who indicated that 50% or more of their consulting hours came from working independently, with partners, or incorporated. This report provides the profile of typical, self-employed and independent technical consultants, including their education, experience, business practices, median earnings and hourly fee. The fee data this report provides will help you set an hourly rate that is competitive with your peers. Member: $29.95 Non-Member: $49.95

This volume is a collection of articles pertaining to the controversial and interesting topic of licensing software engineers in the United States—a topic that has been hotly debated for more than 20 years. However, the debate ended in 2013, when 30 states began offering a path to licensure for software engineers. Today more than 40 states and U.S. jurisdictions support the licensing of software engineers. This collection of articles tells the story of how we got to this point, reviews some of the many controversies, makes the case for licensure, and tells you how to get there—should you choose to do so. Introduced in 2014, the WIE e-book series has a distinct purpose: to help narrow the gender gap between the numbers of men and women in engineering, by providing the stories of female role models at various phases of their careers. Except for the first volume, which is an overview of women in STEM occupations, each book is a first-hand account of how a notable contemporary woman engineer built her career.

  • Through 15 April, IEEE members can download a free copy of this eBook by adding it to your cart and using promo code MARFREE18 at checkout. In Book 5 of IEEE-USA's Women in Engineering E-Book Series, author Melissa Lau's story isn't about grand inventions that will bring about the next Industrial Revolution. It doesn't even have a science award for your usual World-Saving Development or Life-Changing Design. Rather her story points to the little triumphs in an engineer's life that make the journey worth the time, the effort and the wanderings that get us there. There is no fanfare or prestige, and barely anyone understands what engineers talk about at a cocktail party (for those of us brave enough to be found in one). But an ordinary life can be just as remarkable. Member: $0.00 Non-Member: $9.99

  • This e-book series has two purposes: to present a high-level overview about women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields, and to provide the first-hand accounts of the professional journeys of some notable contemporary female engineers. When reading Book 1 (Vol. 1), readers should note that data representing a global perspective on the issue of women in STEM fields is included, wherever available. Employment, education and statistical data are most readily available and detailed for the United States, so many of the statistics and trends identified pertain strictly to the United States. This volume is not meant to be a comprehensive study. The topic of women in the workforce--particularly the STEM workforce--is complex, varied, and perhaps best appreciated when studied from multiple vantage points. Member: FREE Non-Member: $9.99
